“Winning is never easy... we are always very close to the limit.” Never were truer words spoken by Sébastien Loeb after crashing out on
the last day of Rally Italy, handing victory to his closest rival,
Marcus Grönholm.

Just what is going on with Chris Atkinson? Within days of his crashing out in Portugal, the Australian’s co-driver
Glenn Macneall quit for “business and personal reasons” with a third of
the season already run. Whether or not Portugal was the deciding factor
is unsaid, but it may have been an incident too far.

After January’s exciting season opener at the Sno*Drift Rally in
Michigan, the field was wide open for the contenders at this month’s
event in Missouri. Recall that although Travis Pastrana and Christian
Edstrom of Subaru Rally Team USA won the January event, they won only
three stages of the rally outright. This championship is still very

What has felt like a century was really only half of last year’s rally
season for Subaru. Finally, the disastrous 2006 season is over and it
is time to move on. But to do that, SWRT needed a new car.

In spite of the mixed results, Norway was memorable for two reasons for
the Subaru World Rally Team – Petter Solberg at last had a chance to
show his countrymen what he could do on home soil while the Impreza
WRC2006 made its final bow before the WRC2007 was introduced in Mexico.

Petter Solberg’s fortunes fell as quickly as they rose in Sweden to
leave the SWRT frustrated at “what might have been” on the second WRC
event of 2007.
